Jesus is reorienting them, and all of us - his parables jar us into a different way of viewing the will of God in our world. It is a completely different hierarchy of what's important, and it flips the values of the world on its head. In his day, they were expecting an army and he gave them a mustard seed. But this mustard seed would grow into the most sublime expression of God the world has ever seen.
